Waterstones hosted a book launch for Margaret Atwood’s "memoir of sorts", featuring a reading from the author herself. Around 250 fans gathered at Waterstones Piccadilly to celebrate Atwood’s "funny, irreverent" Book of Lives, which was released on 4th November.
The celebration included a panel event with writer Naomi Alderman, editor from Index on Censorship Sally Gimson, chair of Virago Press Lennie Goodings and global executive director of Equality Now Mona Sinha, who spoke of the "enduring impact of one of the most exciting voices of our time" in a discussion chaired by the Guardian’s Lisa Allardice.
The event also featured a creative writing workshop inspired by Atwood’s poetry, led by poet Leena Norms, and a doodling workshop inspired by Margaret Atwood’s own drawings, led by Frankie Curtis.
Fans could also recreate the Book of Lives cover for a portrait photographer and enter a raffle to win a signed and dedicated copy of Book of Lives. The evening culminated in a trio of readings by writer Jessie Burton, actor Ruth Wilson and Margaret Atwood herself.
