Polina Plavinskaia has been appointed head of design at Do Re Mi, a new London-based children’s publisher launching in spring 2026.
Founded by husband-and-wife team Sam Voulters and Anna Watanabe, Do Re Mi will publish board books and picture books that celebrate the best in contemporary illustration, with a particular focus on works in translation.
Originally from Moscow, Plavinskaia has previously held the position of art director at two Russian children’s publishers, Samokat and Alpina Kids. Since moving to the UK in 2023, she has worked with publishers including Quarto and Cicada Books as a freelance designer and illustrator.
She has also collaborated with literary agency Genya aGency, helping emerging illustrators develop their original picture book ideas for international markets. Plavinskaia will commence in the role in January 2026, actively commissioning illustrators as well as working with and supporting those already acquired for the list.

Plavinskaia said: "I was incredibly excited to read about the launch of Do Re Mi and I have eagerly followed their work. They are a refreshing new voice in children’s publishing, and I’m so happy to be part of this mission. I can’t wait to begin working with the amazing and ambitious team at Do Re Mi, discovering new talent from around the world and building an outstanding list of beautiful children’s books."
Voulters said: "I’m thrilled that Polina will be joining Do Re Mi as head of design and look forward to working with her to help establish Do Re Mi as a publisher of beautiful, distinctive children’s books."
