DK Children’s is partnering with the award-winning Manchester Libraries to celebrate Non-Fiction November and champion the value of factual reading for young people.
Non-Fiction November is an annual event created by The Federation of Children’s Book Groups, promoting the joy and value of factual reading for young readers and beyond.
This collaboration is a strategic extension of DK’s commitment to libraries, following its sponsorship of the Library of the Year Award at the 2025 British Book Awards, which Manchester Libraries won, being described by judges as "worthy and inspiring". It also represents Manchester Libraries’ commitment to children’s education and well-being as the city works towards becoming a UNICEF-recognised Child Friendly City, DK said.
Author Emma Young will be appearing at Manchester Central Library on 25th November to talk about her What If…? series, each of which answers 33 crazy and laugh-out-loud questions based around a science subject. To support the event DK will donate a copy of one of Young’s books to each of the 240 students attending.
DK has also donated 1,000 books from its non-fiction list to further supplement Manchester Libraries’ non-fiction offering. Titles donated include those from a range of authors such as Ben Hoare, Jess French, Punam Krishan and Rose Ayling-Ellis, as well as from iconic DK series such as Anthologies, Eyewitness, Behind the Scenes and Year by Year.

Manchester councillor John Hacking, executive member for skills, employment and leisure, said: “We are extremely grateful to DK for their continued support for Manchester Libraries as winners of this year’s prestigious Library of the Year Award. Their generous book donation as part of our Non-Fiction November programme will ensure that hundreds of local children can enjoy learning about the world and own their own copy of some amazing non-fiction books.”
Sarah Larter, managing director at DK Children’s, said: “Non-fiction plays a vital role in fostering a lifelong love of reading and at DK we’re passionate about creating books that open up the world for young readers. Emma’s event and our donation to Manchester Libraries for Non-Fiction November are wonderful ways to help inspire the next generation of curious minds.”
