Faber has scooped Feeding the Monster by Anna Bogutskaya, a "searching and entertaining" exploration of the appeal of horror.
Publishing director Hannah Knowles acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, from Silé Edwards at Andrew Nurnberg Associates. The book is due to publish on 5th September 2024.
The synopsis says: "Until recently, horror was firmly something for those beyond the mainstream – and even now it remains a pleasure that, if acknowledged, frequently leads to the question: what’s wrong with you... In Feeding the Monster, author, critic, broadcaster and creative producer Anna Bogutskaya sets out to dispel this notion, once and for all.
"There is joy to be found within horror, should you know where to look for it, and Bogutskaya, co-founder of the horror film collective ’The Final Girls’ and host of its podcast, film programmer for ’Fantastic Fest’ and creator of the ’Eerie’ podcast, is here to explore the rise in the appeal and power of the genre."
Knowles said: "A shiver of pleasure ran down my spine when I read this on submission. Anna is a wonderfully subversive and playful guide to our love of horror – and the often surprising reasons behind it. It’s a true delight to be publishing her and Feeding the Monster here at Faber."
Bogutskaya added: "Working with Faber is something I could only dream of, and it’s deeply humbling to join their roster of authors. I’m endlessly grateful to Silé and the ANA team for believing in me and my ideas. I am so excited to work with Hannah, whose love of horror is as deep as my own, on shaping this book into something that will speak to horror nerds like me and scaredy cats alike."
