Callaway Arts and Entertainment has snapped up a “panoramic” book on Bob Dylan, featuring nearly 1,000 rare images from his archive as well as draft lyrics and drawings plus dozens of essays, including contributions from novelist Michael Ondaatje and critic Greil Marcus.
Nicholas Callaway, c.e.o., and Manuela Roosevelt, vice president and editorial director, negotiated the global print, e-book and audio rights to Mixing Up the Medicine with The Bob Dylan Centre in Tulsa and have worked alongside the Bob Dylan Management Team to bring the book to life. It will be published on 24th October and distributed by Hachette Book Group in the US and Canada and by Thames & Hudson in English language in the rest of the world.
German translation rights have been acquired by Droemer Knaur, French rights by Editions Seghers, Spanish and Latin American rights by Editorial Planeta, and mainland Chinese rights by CITIC. International language rights are being handled by The Wylie Agency New York and London.
Callaway said: “This is the long-awaited book that Dylan fans have been dreaming of since the 1960s, and it introduces the full scope of this artist’s monumental creativity and achievements to a new generation. This is a book for the ages.”
Angie Crawford, non-fiction buyer, Waterstones, added: “It is a privilege to glimpse the genius of Bob Dylan unfold in this beautiful book, a must-have for his huge number of fans that will be treasured for many years to come. This promises to be a highlight of this autumn’s music publishing, and we look forward to seeing it in all its glory, and sharing it with our customers.”
“Quite simply, Bob Dylan: Mixing Up the Medicine is unlike any book on Bob Dylan ever produced,” said Mark Davidson, curator and director of the Bob Dylan Archive, who wrote and edited the book along with archivist Parker Fishel.
