Dredhëza Maloku has been appointed to the role of senior commissioning editor, fiction, at Hutchinson Heinemann. She will join in February, commissioning literary and translated fiction for Hutchinson Heinemann and will also work with a small number of fiction writers in #Merky Books.
Maloku joins from Daunt Books Publishing, where she has been for the past four years commissioning literary and translated fiction alongside literary essays. Her successes include the Booker-longlisted Misinterpretation by Ledia Xhoga, European fiction such as Slanting Towards the Sea by Lidija Hilje, a collection of essays by Cynthia Zarin called In Italy and modern classics such as I Saw Ramallah by Mourid Barghouti.
Maloku said: "I am looking forward to joining Hutchinson Heinemann and #Merky Books as senior commissioning editor for literary fiction. Both imprints vibrate with dynamism, powered by writers bringing readers unforgettable stories from around the world. What an honour, then, to have the opportunity to shape this list alongside such an ambitious and talented team. I’m lucky to have had many brilliant colleagues – including all the wonderful booksellers – and opportunities at Daunt Books Publishing these past few years, and to leave with such happy memories; I cannot wait to see what this next step at Cornerstone has in store."
Publisher Helen Conford added: "I couldn’t be more delighted that Dredhëza is joining our team. Her fine sensibility, ambition for and commitment to authors is palpable. Hutchinson Heinemann’s fiction is characterised by bold storytelling and clever, enjoyable prose that captures the imagination. I feel so sure that Dredhëza’s wide-ranging taste and commitment to translated writing will only strengthen and expand our list and can’t wait for her to begin."
