The National Literacy Trust raised £207,000 at its 30th Anniversary Gala Dinner last night (7th March) at a star-studded event attended by Julia Donaldson, Francesca Simon and Joseph Coelho.
The money will go to support children and adults struggling with literacy in the UK’s most disadvantaged communities. Over the last 30 years, the National Literacy Trust has worked with over five million children.
The event at Glaziers Hall in London brought together publishers, businesses, authors and ambassadors. Guests included Ian Hislop, Victoria Hislop, Cressida Cowell, Ben Miller, Pandora Sykes and Axel Scheffler as well as supporters from the business community including Chase UK, Amazon, W H Smith, and publishers including Pan Macmillan, Penguin Random House and Simon & Schuster.
Prizes available at auction included a bespoke drawing of your child by Liz Pichon, a Premier League Trophy Visit for a school of your choice, an exclusive children’s mascot experience at the Women’s Six Nations, box tickets for the Royal Albert Hall’s "Swan Lake" and VIP tickets to the Queen’s Reading Room Festival.
