Linda Mohamed has been appointed commissioning editor of fiction at Faber. She will take up the position in January, reporting to Louisa Joyner, associate publisher of fiction.
Mohamed began her career in publishing at Hutchinson Heinemann, part of the Penguin Random House group, rising from editorial assistant to commissioning editor over the past four years.
She helped shape the literary end of the list, publishing new voices in English and translation, including Waterstones Debut Fiction Prize-shortlisted Greta and Valdin by Rebecca K Reilly. She was also the editor of the two most recent winners of the #Merky Books’ New Writers’ Prize.
"I couldn’t be more thrilled and honoured to be joining Faber as commissioning editor of fiction," Mohamed said. "I am excited to join a publisher that is fiercely independent and that boasts such an astonishing heritage. I have long admired Faber’s commitment to publishing the very best fiction in English and translation with books that challenge, energise and reframe the literary landscape, and I cannot wait to work alongside their hugely impressive team."
Joyner added: "Welcoming Linda to Faber is a source of great joy and excitement to us all. A vibrant and daring editor, her commitment to her authors and their work has long impressed us. Her energy, rigour and all-round publishing passion will add fresh power to our elite commissioning team, and bring bold and vital new voices to an extraordinary fiction list."
Alex Bowler, Faber’s publisher, said: "We’re blessed to be the publisher of such an outstanding list of literary fiction and blessed to have a team of such vast experience and wide-ranging literary taste – and now Linda, I’m convinced, will light a new fuse for us."
