Author and Jacaranda Books publishing director Sareeta Domingo has died, as colleagues have paid tribute, describing her loss as "immeasurable". Domingo began her publishing career at fiction packager, Hothouse Fiction, and Harlequin Mills & Boon before moving to Trapeze, an imprint of Orion, as editorial director in 2022. In May 2025, she took up a role as publishing director at Jacaranda Books and in July this year was named one of The Bookseller’s Rising Stars.
She was a passionate champion for diverse voices, and since moving to Jacaranda, she continued her unwavering advocacy of under-represented voices.
As an author, her novels include The Nearness of You (Piatkus, 2016), If I Don’t Have You (Jacaranda, 2020), and most recently, Possibility (Renegade, 2025). She was the creator, editor and contributing writer of Who’s Loving You? (Trapeze, 2021), a celebration of love written by women of colour. She also published books for young adults with Hachette Children’s Books, numerous erotic short stories with Pavilion Books and her journalism was featured in publications including Black Ballad, gal-dem, and Stylist.
Dark Matter marketing posted a tribute on its Instagram, writing: "We are deeply saddened to share the news that our dear friend and colleague – Sareeta Domingo has passed away.
"Sareeta’s passing is an immeasurable loss. She will be remembered not only for her talent and tenacity, but for her kindness, generosity and commitment to championing under-represented voices. Our love and deepest condolences go to her parents – Valda and Larry, her twin brother Lawrence, her husband – Will, friends and all who were touched by her life and work."
