The new children’s publisher Do Re Mi has hired Fiona Scoble as editorial director.
The publisher, set to launch in spring 2026, has been founded by husband-and-wife team Sam Voulters and Anna Watanabe. Do Re Mi will publish "playful, distinctive" board books and picture books for under-7s that "celebrate the best in contemporary illustration, inspired by Japanese children’s publishing".
Scoble is currently head of editorial at Sweet Cherry Publishing and was previously senior editor at Nosy Crow. She will begin her new job on 1st November and will be actively commissioning new titles, as well as working with and supporting those already acquired for the list.
Do Re Mi’s launch list will comprise 15 titles, including the English-language debut from Bologna Children’s Book Fair International Award for Illustration winner Yoshiko Hada, How to Be a Cat; the bestselling Korean picture book The Weather Shop, translated by Deborah Smith; and the debut picture book from Elena Hiroko Magee, the creator of the cult Instagram account @banban.cuties.
Scoble said: "I am delighted to be joining Do Re Mi. The company’s aesthetic drew my attention immediately and I’m thrilled to be working with such a dynamic and ambitious young company. I’m excited to see what we can achieve together and what wonderful new talent we can add to the list."
Voulters said: "We’re so glad to add Fiona’s insight, creative commissioning and wisdom to the Do Re Mi mix as we establish ourselves in 2026 and beyond."
