Mulholland Books has acquired two more novels from Lie With Me author Sabine Durrant.
Hodder’s crime and thriller publisher Ruth Tross acquired British Commonwealth rights excluding Canada to the novelist and journalist's titles from Judith Murray at Greene & Heaton.
The first book in this new deal will be published in 2020.
Meanwhile Durrant’s “brilliantly twisty” next novel, Take Me In, will be out from Mulholland in June 2018. It tells the story of Tessa and Marcus, whose son is saved from drowning by a stranger who is not all that he seems.
Tross said the Mullholland team were excited about turning Durrant, a former literary editor at the Sunday Times, into a “major brand author” after first publishing the author in 2013 following a five-way auction. Lie With Me, picked for the Richard and Judy Spring Book Club list, sold 88,906 copies making £473,862 according to Nielsen BookScan.
Tross commented: “Sabine Durrant is the very definition of smart suspense: a favourite at Hodder, acclaimed by readers, writers and reviewers, her books stand comparison to Highsmith and Rendell in the way they combine chilling plots, vivid characters and sharp commentary on our lives today.”
“Following the spectacular success of Lie With Me we are hugely excited about making Sabine a major brand author.”
Durrant has sold 254,644 books amassing £1.3m according to Nielsen BookScan and has been published in 18 territories.
