Gatsby in Harlem
From the book by F Scott Fitzgerald
Adapted by Roy Williams
Nathan Freeman & Tom Billington/Granny Eats Wolf
There were many reasons for Gatsby in Harlem to be selected as the inaugural winner of this award: Roy Williams’ compelling and coherent reimagination of F Scott Fitzgerald’s story; the captivating performances from Ncuti Gatwa, Malachi Kirby, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Chiké Okonkwo and others; the sonic world conjured by director Celia de Wolff and production company Granny Eats Wolf, which evokes the lively world of the Harlem Renaissance with supreme style; and more. It is a wonderful example of how immersive, questing and powerful audio drama is at its best.
