Entry Guidelines

We know you are working hard on your entries for The British Audio Awards, hereafter known as The Speakies. But listen up, here are a few tips

  1. This is The British Audio Awards NOT The British Book Awards. As well as excellence, the latter also looks at the publishing and the impact; here we are focused on the quality of the audio, including storytelling and the narration. If you are tight for time, just send your audio across, we’ll do the rest!
  2. That said, you have up to 1,000 words to wax lyrical about all you did to make this the best audio it could be, so we’d love hear the publication and production journey. Up to 1,000 words also means 100 is just fine, too.
  3. We created lots of lovely categories for you - from Romance to Self-Help; from Young Adult to Memoir. But maybe your audio doesn’t fit into one of our neatly shaped boxes. Don’t worry, submit it anyway, and our judges will decide where it best fits and then let you know.
  4. Be ambitious: we understand that not all audio products have the same level of production: our judges would like a range of listening experiences, from the multi-cast epics some now love to make, to the quieter, more intimate renditions.
  5. The Speakies is keen to amplify the hard work of producers, so please do include details of how the audio was brought to fruition. Again, a few words can tell a large story, so be as brief as you like.
  6. In this age of AI and the non-human, we plan to double-down on the human - from the writing to the adaption to the proof-listening to the narration. This is the story about audio that we want to tell, and it’ll be the range and quality of the shortlists through which we will tell it.
  7. The Speakies is super stoked to present your work to the world. Reports on the launch of the awards have already appeared across outlets from the US, to Spain, and to Brazil, meaning that news of your audio will travel further than ever. Through our PR company we will put in place media partners in the run up to the shortlist announcement, while retail partnerships supporting those titles are in train, all of which is building toward the winners’ ceremony in November. Don’t miss out - we are literally turning this up to 11.
