W&N is set to to publish Labour MP for Bradford West Naz Shah’s "unforgettable" memoir.
In an exclusive submission, Jenny Lord, executive publisher at W&N and Orion Literary, acquired world English-language rights to Honoured: Survival, Strength and My Path to Politics from Victoria Hobbs at AM Heath.
The memoir follow Shah’s childhood, from witnessing her father beat her mother, before he left his family for a teenage neighbour. At 12, she was sent to Pakistan for protection from her mother’s new abuser, only to be forced into marriage at the age of 15. Within a couple of years, her mother would be in prison, jailed for murdering the man who had subjected her to years of physical and sexual torture, and Naz and her two younger siblings would be left to fend for themselves.
For years, Naz campaigned alongside Southall Black Sisters for her mother’s release and was instrumental in achieving a reduction in her life sentence. In 2015, she was elected to Parliament, overturning George Galloway’s majority to win back Bradford West.
The synopsis adds: "In Honoured, Naz reveals how growing up against almost impossible odds lit the fire that still drives her today. This is the unflinching account of a young British Muslim woman coming of age and discovering the power of her own voice."
Shah said: "Inspiration can spark a moment, but true transformation grows from the roots of community, belief and values that endure. I believe that Honoured is proof that our past doesn’t define our limits, it shapes our strength. When we think differently, believe deeply and write our own stories, we don’t just rise, we shift the narrative for generations to come and I hope that this is just the beginning for me to reach the world and inspire change."
Lord said: "In her singular voice, Naz Shah tells her extraordinarily moving and unforgettable coming-of-age story. A stranger-than-fiction journey of survival, faith and political awakening, Honoured shows us the making of an activist – and a truly inspiring woman."
Honoured will be published by W&N on 5th March 2026 in hardback, e-book and audiobook formats.
