The Bodley Head has acquired a new book by Microsoft AI chief executive officer Mustafa Suleyman, written with his writing partner Michael Bhaskar.
World rights to the book, provisionally titled Humanist Superintelligence, were negotiated by vice-president editorial director of Crown Currency Paul Whitlatch directly with the authors. UK rights have been acquired by Stuart Williams, publishing director of The Bodley Head. Suleyman and Bhaskar previously authored The Coming Wave, published by The Bodley Head in 2023.
“Picking up where The Coming Wave left off, Humanist Superintelligence will confront the next phase of the AI revolution: the imminent arrival of artificial superintelligence and the profound questions raised by ‘seemingly conscious’ machines,” the publisher says.
“Suleyman and Bhaskar lay out a bold humanist framework – arguing that these systems must be deliberately designed, governed, and constrained in service of human flourishing. The book offers a practical roadmap for navigating the economic, political and moral transformation ahead, and for ensuring that the age of superintelligence strengthens, rather than supplants, humanity.”

Williams said: “The Coming Wave established itself on publication as the indispensable guide to the new world taking shape around us. The yet more advanced technologies in the next phase of this revolution will challenge both what it means to be human and what best serves humanity: the intensity of the vision in this book, its scope and its significance are tremendously exciting.”
Mustafa co-founded Inflection AI and AI company DeepMind. Bhaskar is a writer and publisher, whose previous books include The Content Machine (Anthem Press), Curation (Piatkus) and Human Frontiers (The Bridge Street Press).
