Independent publisher Peninsula Press has acquired Still Life, the sixth novel from Zoe Wicomb (pictured) and Elvia Wilk's debut Oval, as part of its growing list of "boundary-pushing" fiction.
Wicomb's novel was published in the US by The New Press in 2020 and is billed as a "polyphonic retelling of the life of abolitionist and publisher Thomas Pringle, which enlists Mary Prince (a West African slave whose narrative he once published), his adopted Khoesan son Hinza Marossi as well as time travelling scholar Sir Nicholas Greene, lifted from the page of Woolf’s Orlando".
Peninsula Press acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from the David Grossman Literary Agency and will publish the title in early 2022.
The second acquisition, Wilk's Oval, is a "vision of near-future Berlin where artists are employed by corporations, housing is increasingly scarce, and the weather is acting strangely".
UK and Commonwealth rights were bought from Harriet Moore at David Higham and will be published in November 2021. It was first published by Soft Skill in the US in 2019.
