Lime Pictures has acquired television rights for Malcolm Duffy's young adult debut novel, Me Mam. Me Dad. Me., about a young boy trying to make sense of his mother's abusive relationship.
The production company, the winner of three Emmys, did the deal with Matthew Dench at the Dench Arnold agency, in association with Davinia Andrew-Lynch of Andlyn.
Rebecca Fenton, head of development for Scripted – Primetime and Young Adult at Lime Pictures, said she had been "hooked" by the "absorbing" story that was inspired by the author’s research in women’s refuges across the North-East.
"Danny’s first-person perspective, endearing naivety and all-consuming mission to find his Dad and save his Mum from her violent new partner is a powerful and moving journey that wholly deserves to be seen on screen," she said.
Me Mam. Me Dad. Me was published by Head of Zeus imprint Zephyr Books in April 2018, and the novel has gone on to be nominated for this year's Carnegie, Branford Boase and Waterstones Children's Book of the Year Prize. It was also a World Book Night selected title. Duffy's second novel Sofa Surfer (Zephyr) is due out in February 2020.
