Kieran Larwood has signed a new publishing deal with Faber Children’s and has sold the TV development rights to his Five Realms series.
Faber Children’s has acquired world English rights to three middle-grade books, set in the same universe as his first series. Publisher Leah Thaxton bought world English rights from Josephine Hayes and Amy Fitzgerald at The Blair Partnership and the first book, Uki and the Outcasts, is about a rabbit who is brought back to life by a spirit guardian to find four escaped spirits. It will be published in September in hardback with illustrations from David Wyatt.
In related news, production company Shiny Button, working with Blink Industries, has optioned the Five Realms stories for TV and is working on a pilot.
Larwood said: "I’m delighted to be returning to the Five Realms to write another trilogy for Faber. It’s been great fun to visit different parts of the world, and to add to the bard’s story with some new characters. I’m also very excited that the first book in the series is being developed for television. The whole process– from script writing to character designing– is fascinating, and being a part of it has been a dream come true. The producers and animators have a great vision for the project, which will hopefully add to and expand the original story."
