HQ has bagged two darkly comic thrillers from debut Katy Brent.
Belinda Toor, editorial director, acquired world all language rights from the author directly.
The first book in the contract, How to Kill Men and Get Away With It, introduces friend, lover and serial killer, Kitty Collins. One night, Kitty is followed on her way home by a drunk man who makes unwanted advances towards her. Pushing him away, he falls on a broken wine bottle and Kitty watches, as he bleeds out over the cobbles. What then ensues, is a merciless killing spree, where Kitty plans to rid the world of the "worst" men. It will publish in e-book and audio on 12th October 2022 and as a paperback original on 16th February 2023.
Brent said: “How To Kill Men has been my passion project for the past two years and kept me sane(ish) during the now infamous Unprecedented Times. I’m so excited that Kitty Collins – and I – have found a home with HQ. I can’t wait for everyone to meet her.”
Toor added: “Every once in a while, you read a submission and think ‘I absolutely have to publish this novel’ and How to Kill Men and Get Away With It was exactly that. It is a deliciously dark satirical thriller about friendship, love and ultimately murder. I am beyond thrilled to be welcoming Katy to HQ Digital – her writing is timely, razor sharp and bursting with wit. Fans of My Sister the Serial Killer (Atlantic) and How to Kill Your Family (Borough Press), will enjoy this subversively funny romp.”
