Hodder Fiction has acquired A Good Place To Hide A Body by Laura Marshall, described as “a fresh, funny thriller about a woman who has to help her elderly parents cover up a murder", in a four-way auction.
Crime and thriller publisher Phoebe Morgan bought UK and Commonwealth rights to two books from Felicity Blunt and Rosie Pierce at Curtis Brown. TV rights have also been snapped up, the publisher says.
Marshall is the author of Friend Request (Sphere) and three other thrillers with Little, Brown. Her books have been translated into 25 languages. Hodder will publish A Good Place To Hide A Body in hardback, e-book, and audio in July 2024, followed by a paperback in 2025.
Marshall said: “I’m delighted to be working with Phoebe and the whole team at Hodder. It’s great to know that they share my vision for A Good Place To Hide A Body and I’m so excited to see the book published next year."
Morgan said: “I have been a fan of Laura ever since she burst onto the scene with Friend Request and I am delighted that she has chosen Hodder as her new home. This is ‘Bad Sisters’ meets ‘The Good Life’ and I love the way Laura inverts the classic crime trope of ‘how far would you go for your child’ – in this case, it’s how far would you go for your parents! Laura brings to life the ultimate dilemma in this fast-paced, unique read.”
Blunt and Pierce said in a joint statement: “We couldn’t be more excited that a book the whole agency adores has found its home with Phoebe and Hodder. Their pitch for how to publish it blew us away.”
