Hachette Children’s Group (HCG) has snapped up a “roaringly funny” non-fiction picture book from Kes Gray, illustrated by Nick East.

Emma Blackburn, picture book and non-fiction publisher, acquired world rights for the text of Brrr! Where Did the Dinosaurs Really Go? directly from the author. World rights for the illustrations were acquired from East’s agent, Heather Richards at Tallbean. It will publish in February 2022 and is aimed at readers aged three and over.

Brrr! Looks at what really happened to the dinosaurs. The synopsis says: “The Ice Age is coming, temperatures are dropping and our dinosaur friends are frrreezing. Only one thing will keep them warm—woolly jumpers! But dinosaurs can’t knit... can they?”

Blackburn said: “Kes Gray is a genius when it comes to funny picture book texts for little ones. Brrr! is jam-packed with laugh-out-loud moments, all sorts of dinosaurs, knitting (yes, knitting!) and a trip to outer space. With Nick East’s vibrant illustrations, this book is sure to delight all dino-fans and we are enormously excited to be publishing it at HCG.”
