HarperCollins Children’s Books has snapped up four middle-grade titles and two picture books by Hannah Gold.
Fiction publisher Nick Lake and picture book publishing director Alice Blacker acquired world rights from Claire Wilson at RCW in a major deal.
The four middle-grade titles will be standalone adventures illustrated by Levi Pinfold. The first picture book will be a retelling of Gold’s novel, The Last Bear, brought to life by illustrator Tom Percival.
The first of the middle-grade novels in the new deal will publish in autumn 2026. Picture books and further novels will follow, taking Gold’s publishing through to 2030.

Percival said: "As soon as I was asked if I would be interested in illustrating a picture book edition of The Last Bear, I knew that it was going to be an exciting project. I’m a big fan of Hannah’s writing and The Last Bear in particular weaves a magical combination of emotional connection, personal discovery and ecological understanding.
"I can’t wait to get fully absorbed in the rugged landscapes of Bear Island and to start bringing these much-loved characters to visual life in a new way for a younger readership."
Lake said: "We are incredibly proud to publish Hannah Gold’s thrilling stories, which combine wild adventure with a battle cry for the environment that has resonated with readers worldwide. Hannah has given us bears, huskies, turtles and whales – and we can’t wait to see what amazing journeys these new novels take us on.
"We are also excited to be expanding Hannah’s portfolio and welcoming her to our Colour team. With The Last Bear already established as a modern classic, we can’t wait to see Bear and April brought to life for small readers, in a picture book that combines the timeless emotional core of Hannah’s book with Tom Percival’s gift for visual storytelling, to create a whole new alchemy of text and image."
