Hachette Children’s Group (HCG) has snapped up My Dad and the Toot that Shook the World and another picture book by author and "parenting influencer" Matt Coyne and illustrator Richard Merritt.
Ellie Brough, the previous commissioning editor at HCG, acquired world rights for the two books from Euan Thorneycroft at A M Heath, while illustrations were acquired directly from Merrit. The project is being published by Katie Sassienie, Hachette Children’s Group editorial director, with my My Dad and the Toot that Shook the World publishing in May 2024 in paperback.
"Join one child and his gassy dad as they follow the powerful fart on a disastrously smelly journey around the world", the synopsis says. "From knocking the nose of the Sphinx in Egypt to bending the Eiffel Tower in France, this rip-roaring, world-spanning, stomach-turning adventure begins."
Coyne is the voice behind the "Man vs Baby" blog and socials, as well as the author of Dummy (Wildfire) and Man vs Toddler (Wilfdifre). His debut novel, Frank and Red, was published by Headline in February 2024.
Sassienie said: "Matt has been making parents laugh with his witty and relatable blog and books for years now, and it feels like a natural shift into this children’s space – where he’ll have parents and their kids in fits of laughter. Paired with Richard’s bold and vibrant artwork, this is one hilariously whiffy adventure you won’t want to miss."
