Indie Cipher Press has scooped two books by US writer Emerson Whitney. UK and Commonwealth rights were acquired from McSweeney’s, via Luke Ingram at The Wiley Agency.
Daddy Boy will publish in the UK in September 2023. It follows Emerson Whitney who, after a decade-long relationship with a dominatrix, drives up and down America with a group of strangers as he tries to reshape his life.
Whitney’s backlist title, Heaven, will follow in early 2024. An examination of the role childhood plays in shaping a person, it has been named a best book by Kirkus, Bomb, and the Chicago Review of Books.
Jack Thompson, co-founder and publisher at Cipher Press, said: "We absolutely love Emerson’s Whitney’s work — he is such a generous, big-hearted, intelligent writer; his books are propulsive, bewitching and honest.
"Whitney uses memoir and theory to examine gender and transness, family, trauma and relationships. His books have really struck a chord with us and we are so excited to be bringing his work to UK readers."
