Bloomsbury has signed Swell, a new book from swimming enthusiast Jenny Landreth.
Bloomsbury acquired world English-language rights for the book from Becky Thomas at Johnson and Alcock for an undisclosed sum.
Part social history, part memoir, Swell will explore how women were denied access to swimming facilities for generations before becoming the most popular participation sport in the country.
Publisher Charlotte Atyeo said: "We were all completely bowled over by Jenny’s proposal. She has such an engaging, inclusive and utterly joyful voice – just like her own swimming story – and we were all smitten immediately. With swimming being more open to women than any other sport in the UK today, Jenny’s tales of the women swimming pioneers who made it possible for us to take the plunge without a second thought whenever we fancy were captivating. I’m hugely excited to work with Jenny and to hear more about her own story in the context of these brilliant swimming women through the years."
Landreth said: "I’m absolutely delighted to be published by the team at Bloomsbury, and determined to turn them all into enthusiastic swimmers."
Bloomsbury will publish Swell in summer 2017.
