Aster, part of the Octopus Publishing Group, has signed The Mind Manual: Mental Fitness Tools for Everyone by Dr Alex George.
Stephanie Jackson, publisher, acquired world rights all languages from Carly Cook and Harry Grenville at The Found. The Mind Manual will be published on 11th May.
The publisher’s synopsis says: “The Mind Manual will show you how to assess your mental health today and understand what’s normal for you. It will reveal the seven universal truths that everyone should remember and the mental fitness foundations that will boost you.
“The book will feature a mental health toolkit to help you thrive. Dr Alex is looking to change the conversation about what mental fitness is and how we should approach it. He believes looking after your mental fitness means taking a 360° approach to your physical and emotional health.”
George is a TV doctor, author and Youth Mental Health Ambassador to the government. His first book, Live Well Every Day, was published by Aster in May 2021. He campaigns for early support hubs, which give young people easy access to mental health support, and in November 2021 presented his first full-length documentary for BBC One and Children in Need, “Dr Alex: Our Young Mental Health Crisis”. He also hosts his own radio show on Classic FM, “Uplifting Classics”.
Jackson said: “This is a book that will have real impact, empower readers and change lives. Dr Alex’s clear and compassionate encouragement, guidance and advice, trusted by millions and informed by his own experiences, his medical expertise and his work as a mental health advocate, will help anyone seeking to understand how to manage life’s highs and lows, build resilience and find balance in their day to day. Just in time for Mental Health Awareness Week, The Mind Manual is accessible, invaluable and timely.”
George said: “I could not be more excited to be announcing my new book. Our mental wellbeing is just as vital as our physical wellbeing and yet we often only address our mental health when it is in crisis. Everyone has an individual mental health scale—the key is to know yours and recognise how to keep it well-maintained and nourished but also to know when to seek help if you need it. This book is for everyone and I hope will help change the conversation, remove any stigma and encourage everyone to understand that a 360 approach to emotional health will create healthy habits to help you thrive.”
