A list of 50 nominations has been revealed for World Book Day’s The Book to Talk About 2009.
World Book Day’s Spread the Word website is launched today [Friday] and people have been invited to vote for their favourite book to discuss. This year, seven new publishers have participated including Granta, Sort of Books, Marion Boyars and Gomer. Profile also has books on the list after non-fiction titles were included this year. Two self-published books are also included for the first time.
A panel including World Book Day co-ordinator Cathy Schofield and the Booksellers Association’s Alan Staton whittled down the original submissions to the shortlist of 50. The 10 most popular titles will be announced on 30th January 2009 in a six-page special supplement in the Guardian.
Voting will continue throughout February, with the winning author of The Book to Talk about 2009—and recipient of a £5,000 prize—to be announced on World Book Day, Thursday 5th March. For more information visit: www.worldbookday.com/spreadtheword
