World Book Day has appointed Fiona Hickley as interim executive director, following the departure of Cassie Chadderton, who stepped down at the end of August after more than five years in the role.
Hickley’s previous roles include brand managing Harry Potter at Warner Bros, and brand managing at DC Thomson and the Beano. She has worked with many publishers, reading charities and corporate partners in the past, including World Book Day, the Summer Reading Challenge and the National Literacy Trust along with retail and commercial partners.
World Book Day chair Emma Scott said Hickley was appointed "for her experience leading high-profile brands, including within publishing, and managing complex partnerships".
Hickley said: "Having cheer-led the fun of children’s reading in my previous roles, it’s wonderful to be joining World Book Day – the masterminds of the joyous, noisy annual celebration. It’s great timing to be joining the team, just as the 2026 World Book Day campaign launches with the reveal of our £1 books next week, in anticipation for the National Year of Reading."
