William Collins has signed a title exploring the growth of the Islamic State, for publication in January 2015.
Martin Redfern, editorial director, signed UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, in ISIS: The State of Terror by Jessica Stern and J M Berger in a deal with Martha Kaplan of the Martha Kaplan Agency. HarperCollin's Ecco imprint will publish in the US.
Stern is lecturer in terrorism at Harvard University, while Berger is the author of Jihad Joe (Potomac Books). The book uses extensive sources and material to examine how ISIS has developed, using social media to recruit people from around the world.
Redfern said: "The sudden, dramatic rise of ISIS is the greatest foreign policy challenge we face today. ISIS: The State of Terror is not only a compelling account of the evolution of a terrorist organization, but also a necessary book that attempts to answer the question of how to respond to this terrifying and immediate threat."
