Wildfire has acquired a debut crime novel, Now You See by journalist Max Manning, about the dark side of social media.
Senior commissioning editor Kate Stephenson acquired UK and Commonwealth rights excluding Canada from Madeleine Milburn at the Madeleine Milburn Literary Agency.
Now You See is set in London and introduces Detective Chief Inspector Dan Fenton. The "bone-chilling" opening set the scene, showing a killer photographing his victim’s final moments and then posting the images online. They go viral before Fenton’s team even discover the body in London's Victoria Park. Soon, another victim’s photo is similarly posted…and so begins the killer’s following.
Milburn called Manning "a brand name in the making" while Stephenson said he was "an exciting new voice in crime fiction".
"Now You See is a gripping debut that delves into the mind of a psychopath, while also shining a light on the dark side of social media," said Stephenson. "Max is an exciting new voice in crime fiction and we couldn’t be more thrilled to be publishing him at Wildfire."
Wildfire will publish the e-book in December this year, and follow with a paperback publication in April 2018.
Now You See will be published by Sourcebooks in North America, and HarperCollins in Germany.
