Welbeck has appointed Bonnier Books UK’s Oliver Holden-Rea as senior commissioning editor, working on a new narrative non-fiction list.
Holden-Rea joined Bonnier imprint Blink as an editor in 2015 from Bloomsbury. He went on to publish official books of Netflix series “The Crown”, the Sunday Times bestseller Max’s Sandwich Book and Letter to My Younger Self with the Big Issue, plus forthcoming titles The Power of Not Thinking by Simon Roberts and The Secret GP by Dr Max Skittle.
He has also worked with a range of big-name authors including Robbie Williams, Roger Daltrey, Ben Macintyre, George Saunders and Elizabeth Gilbert.
Holden-Rea said: "It has been a pleasure working with the team at Bonnier, but this felt like a wonderful opportunity to help build a new narrative non-fiction list. I love Welbeck’s creative vision and their desire to produce high-quality books with a focus on the mass market, and am delighted to be a part of what is a very exciting time in the company’s evolution.”
The new Welbeck list will feature highly commercial titles across smart thinking, soft business, popular science, history, personal development and wellbeing, biography, memoir, politics, culture and sport. Its first titles will be released in the autumn.
Wayne Davies, Welbeck group publisher for adult non-fiction, said "Oli came on our radar having been recommended by many in the agent community. His energy, creativity and good taste shone through from the first and we’re delighted to have him as a key part of our dynamic and highly focused team. Alongside our recent key hires in UK and international sales, and marketing, we now have the platform to deliver a roster of narrative non-fiction bestsellers."
Welbeck was set up last year by ex-Zaffre c.e.o. Mark Smith and former Quarto c.e.o Marcus Leaver and Holden-Rea’s appointment is the latest in a string of moves from Bonnier to the firm. Most recently, Angie Willocks and Nico Poilblanc joined the company as sales directors. Julian Shaw, a former Bonnier group commercial director, has also been appointed group finance and operations director.
