Vermilion has landed a “taboo-busting” guide to tackling the menopause from Britpop icon turned entrepreneur Meg Mathews.
Publishing director Susanna Abbott acquired world rights from the Hanbury Agency on behalf of Caroline Alexander-Cheong at Genius Brand. The New Hot: Taking on the Menopause with Attitude and Style will be published in October 2020. The book will also be published by Harmony/Rodale in the US in spring 2021.
Billed as an “essential sassy guide for women who can’t slow down”, the book is said to be backed by the latest scientific research.
The publisher explained: “All women will go through the menopause and there are currently an estimated 13 million of them in the UK right now, many of whom are suffering needlessly in silence. For Meg Mathews it all started in 2016 when she began to experience the first symptoms of the menopause. She was shocked at the lack of support and understanding shown to women during this time in their lives and has now made it her mission to break the stigma around the menopause.”
Mathews, founder of website megsmenopause.com, said: “I want to break down the taboos and communicate frankly about the menopause. I really hit rock bottom when I hit menopause but it took me months to realise what was happening. My book is about giving women the knowledge of what to look out for and how to own it, and I feel so passionate it shouldn’t be something women suffer in silence. Hitting the menopause can be downright awful but it was also the most powerful thing and gave me a new way of thinking – I have never felt more empowered.”
Abbott added: “Meg Mathews is a passionate ambassador for women going through menopause and her book will be a lifeline for everyone approaching or going through the menopause. She will look as much at how menopause impacts lifestyle as at the actual medical symptoms, sharing the latest information and practical advice on both. Hers will be a no-holds-barred guide and it will entertain and empower in equal measure. We are thrilled to welcome Meg to our list.”
