Touch Press and Barefoot Books have developed the Barefoot World Atlas App, based on the atlas published in hardback by Barefoot last year.
The app is available today (16th March) for £5.49/$7.99 through Apple's app store, and is compatible with the first and second generation iPad.
The app is an interactive 3D globe aimed at children, with 500 features including 3D rotations of historical objects from the Royal Geographic Society; live country facts including current weather; and animated illustrations by artist David Dean. Written text and spoken narration comes from BBC presenter and geographer Nick Crane, with music and sonic effects also included.
Co-founder and c.e.o. of Barefoot Books Nancy Traversy said: "No one brings the iPad alive like Touch Press and we are honoured to partner with them to deliver this ground-breaking app that ignites the imagination and zest for discovery in children of all ages."
Touch Press' collaboration with Faber and author Marcus Chown, Solar System for iPad, won The Bookseller's Digital Innovation Award last year.
