Bookouture associate publisher Kathryn Taussig has made her first acquisitions for the publisher: two psychological thrillers from Lucy Dawson, a saga series from debut author Lizzie Page, and two romantic comedies from self-published author Debbie Viggiano.
Taussig, who joined the digital publisher from Quercus in August, acquired world English language rights from Sarah Ballard at United Agents in two new books from Dawson. The first, The Daughter, will be published January 2018. Dawson was previously published by Little, Brown and Corvus.
The Daughter tells the story of a young mother, Jess, who tells a lie to protect someone she loves and loses her five-year-old daughter – only to be confronted 20 years later by a series of harrowing messages from the past.
Taussig said: "I have long admired Lucy’s writing, so I’m beyond thrilled to be publishing her in my first acquisition for Bookouture. She’s got a real gift for writing genuine characters, and I think this is her best book yet."
Dawson added: "I've watched Bookouture's performance in the e-book market with growing admiration for some time now. The numbers speak for themselves and I'm delighted to be in the fold. I couldn't have asked for a warmer or more enthusiastic welcome back to Hachette."
Meanwhile, Taussig also acquired world English language rights for three books from Page from Thérèse Coen at Hardman and Swainson. The first in the trilogy, The War Nurses, will publish on 26th April 2018.
Page said: "It’s a huge privilege to sign a three-book deal with Bookouture and I’m thrilled to have been given this opportunity. I feel like my writing is in safe hands with Kathryn Taussig and her experienced and ambitious team. I’m enjoying the whole process."
Taussig has also acquired world all language rights to two books from Viggiano, directly from the author. Viggiano is an established self-published author in the women’s fiction market, and two of her previous novels Stockings and Cellulite and The Cornershop of Whispers were Kindle bestsellers, according to Bookouture.
Taussig said: "You only need to look at Debbie’s gushing online reviews to see that she already has a devoted readership – and I think Bookouture is the perfect place to take her publishing to the next level. I’m so looking forward to working with Debbie."
