Sky Arts’ “The Book Show” is to expand its coverage of literary festivals, and is also launching a series of bursaries to help those wanting to pursue careers in the creative arts.
The fifth series, which launches on the 14th October with a broadcast from the Cheltenham Literature Festival, will film shows at Bath Literature Festival in February, Words by the Water in Cumbria in March, and Hay Literature Festival in May. A further festival, yet to be confirmed, will also be featured during the series.
Mariella Frostrup, presenter of The Book Show, commented: "Book festivals play an important part in inspiring readers and by taking The Book Show to the festivals, we can do even more to bring the experiences and stories of some wonderful authors to life.”
The digital channel is also launching the Sky Arts Get Creative Fund at the festivals, which offers one person per festival the chance to win £1,000 to fund a course on their creative passions- the winner will be asked to write a weekly blog for the Sky Arts website.
Authors lined up to appear on the show include Sebastian Faulks, Susan Hill and James Ellroy. Peter James will also present a film about Agatha Christie for the show, with a second film a literary tour of The Lady with Rachel Johnson.
A new feature for the show will follow guests revealing the titles they feel everyone should read before the age of 21, joining the Bedside Table and Book Club Recommendations features.
