Simon & Schuster has signed a deal with Country Life magazine to publish a new series of tie-in books, beginning this autumn with Curious Observations: A Country Miscellany.
The book will comprise writings, articles and miscellany from the 114-year-old Country Life archives. Twenty-five titles will be published during the next five years. Forthcoming titles include The Glory of the Garden, Gentlemen's Pursuits and Letters to the Editor.
Francine Lawrence, editorial director of Simon & Schuster Illustrated, said: 'We have forged a fantastic partnership with Country Life magazine. They gave us unlimited access to their 114-year-old archive—an extensive and rich seam of extraordinary black and white images and sometimes delightfully eccentric material."
Mark Hedges, editor of Country Life, said: "Despite our long history Curious Observations is the first attempt we have made to turn back through pages of Country Life and gather together the riches they contain. The result is a fascinating treasury of articles, letters and photographs from Country Life down the years. Their charm is partly bound up with the lost world they describe, but there is something timeless about some of the best contributions to the magazine.
"Each one adds to the golden seam of what it is to be and to feel British.”
