Some Sheffield libraries could be turned into wine bars or restaurants with a library attached, if council plans go ahead.
The city council has revealed the names of the groups and companies that have expressed an interest in keeping open 16 branches that are threatened with closure.
As well as numerous local community groups, there are several companies that have stepped forward, including Forum Café Bars, which is looking at the idea of combining libraries with a wine bar or restaurant.
The Sheffield Telegraph reported that the company, which runs premises in the city including the York Hotel, is looking at libraries in Hillsborough, Walkley, Woodseats and Ecclesall with a view to creating "a wine/bar restaurant incorporating space for a library".
The groups have also shown an interest in taking over the entire service, The Sheffield Cubed Consortium, Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust, and John Laing, which also runs library services in the London boroughs of Houslow, Ealing, and Harrow, and will soon take over services in Croydon.
Consultations will be held over the next 12 weeks before final decisions are taken.
