Scholastic UK promotes Maybury

Scholastic UK has promoted David Maybury, former commissioning editor, to the newly created role of media development director.

The publisher created the position because it is looking to grow its licensed publishing and leverage its brands more effectively.

Maybury, who takes on the role with immediate effect, will engage with content creators to acquire fiction and non-fiction books, and will take on responsibility for building relationships with film TV and film companies (with the exception of the Horrible Histories and Horrible Science brands). He reports to publisher Miriam Farbey.

Maybury joined Scholastic in 2014 and has since then orchestrated several deals with other content creators, including one with children’s marketing platform SuperAwesome.

Elsewhere in the licensing division, Elizabeth Scoggins (licensing and non-fiction publisher) and Maya Maraj (licensing scout) will expand their roles in bringing licensed books to Scholastic’s list.
