Sainsbury's has launched a new entertainment website in time for the festive rush. The new site, www.sainsburys.co.uk/entertainment, allows customers to pre-order and purchase over 150,000 books, DVDs, Blu-rays, CDs and games online. The website includes sections on the Sainsbury's Book Club and both hardback and paperback titles by genre. Offers are also highlighted online, such as John Grisham's The Confession offered for just £5, or a promotion of two for £8 on children's annuals.
As part of a wider initiative to increase the retailer's online entertainment offer Sainsbury's has also announced plans to launch a digital download service and a range of e-books will be introduced early next year.
Sainsbury's head of entertainment Richard Crampton said: "Online enables us to offer much more than we can in store. The new site will join seamlessly with our existing non-food online offer so customers can browse and discover their favourite music, films, books and games easily."
This announcement comes after the supermarket today (10th November) reported its non-food sales are growing at three times the rate of its food sales, according to the retailer's interim results for the 28 weeks to 2nd October. The company as a whole saw total sales up 7% to £11.9bn, with underlying operating profit up 8.2% to £370m.
