Submissions are now being accepted for the Wellcome Trust Book Prize, which is to be re-launched in 2014. FMcM associates, who recently launched The Folio Prize, will take over the PR for the re-launch and administration of the Wellcome Trust Book Prize, which is given to a book of fiction or non-fiction centred around a medical theme.
Over the past five years, judges have included AC Grayling, Jo Brand and Mark Lawson, while shortlisted books have ranged from crime thrillers to Man Booker Prize-nominated titles.
Kitty Topiwala, commissioning editor at the Wellcome Trust said: “As this unique Prize enters its fifth year, we are putting ambitious plans in place to introduce much wider audiences to the quality and breadth of literature that takes inspiration from our relationship to health and sickness and to celebrate books that challenge and entertain us with fresh visions of the human condition.”
Fiona McMorrough, c.e.o. of FMcM Associates said: “It really is great news for writers and publishers that the Wellcome Trust is celebrating the fifth anniversary of its prize with a major re-launch of what is an already very successful and ambitious award.”
Publishers can now submit works published between October 2012 and December 2013, rather than the previous December to December cut-off. The deadline for submissions of 28th June 2013, with final texts due by 27th September. The prize will be launched in November 2013, with the shortlist announced in February next year. The winner will be revealed in April.
