Quarto is launching a new children's imprint, Happy Yak, this summer, publishing pre-school board, cloth and bath books, picture books, commercial non-fiction and brand partnership titles for children aged up to seven.
The imprint will be headed by associate publisher Rhiannon Findlay. Happy Yak will feature eye-catching design, contemporary illustration, innovative novelty formats and engaging, entertaining text, the publisher said. It will launch in the UK, US and internationally.
Findlay said: “With a strong seasonal offering and a focus on the latest trends, the list has been designed to appeal to a broad readership. Underpinned by humour and accessibility, these are books to make you smile. Be it a novelty board book or a riotous read-aloud picture book, each of our titles has been carefully crafted to aid interaction and support child development.”
The launch list includes first concept board books Animal ABC, Animal 123 and Animal Colours by award-winning animator Nikolas Ilic, and illustrated non-fiction title The World’s Most Pointless* Animals (*or are they?) by Philip Bunting, which has already sold into 10 languages pre-publication.
Findlay added: “We will be continuing our partnership with the Wee Gallery and we are also delighted to announce a new pre-school brand partnership with partyware company Meri Meri, kicking off in spring 2022 with a gorgeous range of cloth and paper-engineered board books for children aged 0-5 years. We couldn’t be more excited to launch our joyful new imprint and welcome readers to the Yak Pack.”
Group publisher Katie Cotton said: “Filled with books that are bold, bright and frankly hilarious, it’s impossible not to smile when you see the Happy Yak launch list. We can’t wait for these books to find their readers.”
