Pip Landers-Letts has been awarded the £20,000 Kindle Storyteller Award (KSA) for Pyg, a queer retelling of George Bernard Shaw’s play Pygmalion.
The award celebrates the best self-published book of the year. It is open to any novel over 24 pages in length published on Kindle Direct Publishing between 1st May and 31st August.
Readers help choose the initial shortlist of stories, with bestseller rankings and reader reviews considered. A panel of judges, including figures from the world of publishing and Amazon Books, then select the winning entry based on plot, originality, creativity and the quality of the writing.
Landers-Letts said: “It’s such an honour to be recognised by this award. When I first started self-publishing my work, I never believed this could happen. I found the traditional publishing route mystifying and couldn’t see a space for someone like me. Self-publishing has given me the incredible opportunity to see my work in print and in more hands than I could ever imagine. I really believe we should all be able to find ourselves in the stories we read, so I’m grateful to KDP for the platform that means voices like mine don’t need permission to be heard.”
"This year was a record-breaking year for Kindle Storyteller Award submissions, with tens of thousands of writers both new and established putting their work forward," said Jen Barrett, UK KDP Manager at Amazon. "Pip’s winning novel drew the judges in from the first page, with its incredible characters and storytelling, and unique voice."
Entries for the 2026 Kindle Storyteller Award will open next spring.
