Penguin Portfolio, the publisher's business imprint new to the UK, is pairing up with international accounting and consulting firm Deloitte.
The imprint will publish As One by Deloitte c.e.o. James Quigley and Mehrdad Baghai in Feburary 2011. Baghai is co-leader of the Deloitte As One project, an internal initiative which researched different management styles. The book will explore the discoveries of the research, explaining how best to manage staff. The project will be launched this autumn to Deloitte's clients as part of their consultancy work, revealing how companies can be organised more effectively.
Editorial director Joel Rickett said on the pairing: "When we first announced the Portfolio list they came to us. Their new leadership centre had been researching different management styles and different archetypes of leadership. It is being run out of the UK but with HQs all over the world; its global footprint mirrors that of Portfolio and its timing too is nearly identical to ours. It is a match made in heaven, and it is great to work with the number one accountancy group."
"It is part of a partnership that will extend definitely, we are definitely a team, but this is the only title at the moment."
The imprint has also made a series of further acquisitions, including Idea Man: A Memoir by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, which was acquired as a global deal for Portfolio by Portfolio US, and will be published simultaneously in all Portfolio regions in April 2011.
Other new titles include All the Devils Are Here: The Hidden History of the Financial Crisis by Bethany McLean and Joe Nocera, to be published this December. Rickett said: "It tells the story from the end of Liar's Poker by Michael Lewis (Hodder) to the beginning of Too Big to Fail by Andrew Ross Sorkin (Viking). We hope this will be the last word on the crisis."
Also signed up globally for Portfolio is Enchantment: How to Woo, Influence and Persuade by Guy Kawasaki, author of the business bestseller The Art of the Start. "He has a huge online following," said Rickett. Publication is planned for 3rd March 2011.
