Mat Pfleger has been appointed as managing director of the Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) by the Authors' Licensing and Collecting Society (ALCS) and PLS (Publishers Licensing Society), owners of the CLA.
Pfelger is currently commercial director and deputy c.e.o. of the CLA, a role he has held since October 2013, and has been responsible for its day to day management since August 2014. In his new role, he will focus on managing the CLA and leading the development of propositions that meet the needs of the industry as it adapts to new technology and regulation.
The CLS board said: “We feel fortunate to have Mat take up this important role and bring his abundant enthusiasm for these new opportunities, and for the cause of copyright.”
Pfelger was formerly head of sales and marketing at the British Library, before joining CLA as UK sales and marketing director in 2008, where he is said to have increased sales by 42% in five years.
He said of his new appointment: “CLA makes copyright easier and rewards those whose work teaches, informs, and entertains. We pay over £70 million a year to publishers and authors. I am thrilled to be heading this organisation as we move from inkscape to cloudscape, and ensure words sustain their value in this new world.”
