Actor Edward Petherbridge, the original Guildenstern in Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead, has been signed by Indepenpress for a collection of essays.
Indepenpress m.d. Lynn Ashman signed UK rights direct with Petherbridge for an undisclosed sum.
Unscheduled Appearances and other Essays will cover Petherbridge’s 50 years in the business, including his role as Guildenstern and Lord Peter Wimsey in the Dorothy L Sayers Mysteries for television. He most recently appeared in the stage play “The Fantasticks”.
The publisher described it as “part memoir and part masterclass", adding: "This unique anthology of prose and poetry, illustrated throughout by Petherbridge’s own artwork, is wonderfully entertaining, incisive and often moving exposition of the very heart of the mystery of acting”.
The title will be launched at London Book Fair 2011.
