Bloomsbury Consumer Publishing managing director Emma Hopkin is departing the company on 31st December, "following an assessment of the future business needs of the Consumer division".
The publisher noted: "In the last decade under Emma Hopkin’s leadership the global consumer business has grown in both revenues and profit in the UK and US. The children’s business revenues have more than doubled from £25.6m in 2012 to £59.4m in 2020 with profit up threefold. This growth was led by the success of the Harry Potter Illustrated programme, development of author brands and the addition of specialist picture book and non-fiction publishing teams.
"Having turned around the children’s division Hopkin took on additional responsibility for the adult division in 2016. Since then both revenue and profit have grown, with an exceptional half-year performance this year with a sales increase of 16% and a profit of £1.1m announced."
Bloomsbury chief executive officer Nigel Newton said: "I would like to thank Emma for the tremendous drive and ambition with which she grew Bloomsbury's children's and adult publishing. She has made a great contribution to Bloomsbury over nine years for which we are very grateful and we wish her well."
Hopkin stated: "I have enjoyed my time at Bloomsbury enormously – and am extremely proud of all I have achieved. It has been a privilege to work with such talented authors and illustrators and such great editorial and design teams, who really are second to none. It is testament to their energy, passion and hard work to see both adult and children’s divisions so well poised for continued and sustained growth."
