Charlotte Mursell has been promoted from editorial director to publishing director for Orion Fiction.
Mursell, a Bookseller Rising Star in 2019, joined the company in 2020 after five years at HarperCollins.
Authors Mursell has published include Anna Whitehouse, Cathy Kelly and Veronica Henry as well as Kirsty Capes, author of Careless, which was longlisted for the Women’s Fiction Prize and shortlisted for Audio Book of the Year at the British Book Awards.
She recently triumphed in an eight-way auction to sign The Fellowship of Puzzlemakers by Samuel Burr, which will be published as a superlead title for Orion Fiction in 2024, and pre-empted Psyche & Eros by Luna McNamara, a feminist retelling of the Greek love story.
Next year, she will publish tennis coach Judy Murray’s fiction debut, and has brought authors Jessie Cave and Anne O’Brien to Orion.
She said: “I’m thrilled to step up into this new role and so proud of the incredible achievements of my brilliant authors over the two years I’ve been at Orion Fiction. I’m excited for all that lies ahead and to drive the growth of our exceptional list of bestselling commercial and book club fiction to even greater heights.”
Sam Eades, who was recently promoted to publisher of Orion Fiction, said: “Charlotte is a brilliant commercial acquirer, a forensic editor, a creative publisher and inspiring leader. The combination of her passion for commercial fiction, entrepreneurial spirit and publishing nous is the perfect catalyst for Orion Fiction’s future growth."
