Octopus imprint Mitchell Beazley has landed the angling adventures of chef, restaurateur and food writer Mark Hix.
Stephanie Jackson, publishing director at Octopus, acquired world all languages rights from Cathryn Summerhayes at Curtis Brown. Hooked: Adventures in Angling and Eating will be published on 2nd May 2019 at £20.
Described as a “narrative deep dive” into angling, the book begins with Hix revealing how his first catch at age eight led to a lifelong passion.
The synopsis explains: “You will be regaled with tales of extraordinary fishing expeditions at home and afar, from the banks of the Dumfriesshire coast to New Zealand’s Milford Sound, with each trip ending in a feast – be it the catch of the day (if all went to plan), or something found and foraged if the need arises (always have a back-up plan). Hooked features 50 recipes for food and drink from Sea bass curry, Barracuda & pineapple ceviche and Trout kedgeree to Temperley sour and Macho margarita. Weaved into the narrative are the infectious, and unexpected, joys of fishing and what it does for you. Hint: it's not necessarily about the fish.”
After 17 years as chef director at Ivy-owner Caprice Holdings, Hix opened his first restaurant in 2008 – the distinguished HIX Oyster & Chop House in Farringdon. He followed it up with a string of other HIX sites and, in 2015, opened his first stand-alone bar in the Old Vic theatre.
Jackson said: “From experienced anglers to armchair adventurers, Mark Hix’s tales of his life in fishing will entertain anyone with an interest in the thrill of the catch.”
Hix added: “Hooked is more than a cook book, it’s more of a fishing tales book that always involves a spot of simple cooking on the boat or riverbank with like-minded friends.”
