Hodder is planning its most "innovative" campaign for Jodi Picoult's next novel, having acquired it from Simon & Schuster in the US.
Publishing director Carolyn Mays bought UK rights in The Storyteller, which will be published in March 2013. The novel follows Sage, a young woman whose new friend, Josef Weber, tells her he was an SS guard at Auschwitz—and asks her to kill him. Sage's grandmother is a Holocaust survivor, with the plot hinging on what action Sage will take.
The marketing and publicity campaign will see Picoult dedicating the book to her fans, with the first 5,000 to order the novel and submit their entry to have their name added to the end pages of the gift hardback edition. Fans can also enter someone else's name and give it as a present with a card, with entry open via a tab on Picoult's UK Facebook page, built by digital agency Webstars.
The campaign will also feature a "heavyweight" outdoor poster campaign, a social media treasure hunt, early reading group and review films, and Picoult will be visiting the UK on publication for a nationwide media tour.
Mays said: "Jodi Picoult's new novel is, to my mind, her best yet: illuminating, poignant and uplifting, and always absolutely gripping."
