HarperCollins has launched a short story competition offering writers a chance to have their work featured in a title published by its Angry Robot sci-fi imprint.
The three winners of the competition will have their stories featured in Zoo City by Lauren Beukes, which is scheduled for publication in May 2010. Entrants must set their story in the universe of Beukes' debut, Moxyland, a thriller about technological progress and the freedoms it threatens.
The competition will be launched this Friday (7th August) at Montreal's Science Fiction Convention and the winners will be announced at FantasyCon in Nottingham in September.
HarperCollins is making Moxyland available to be read for free on its social networking site authonomy.com for the duration of the competition. Beukes said: "A book stops being yours the moment it ventures out on its own in public and gets read by other people. I love the idea of people being able to play with Moxyland, to put their own spin on the world and the characters, remix and transmute them into new and exciting things I wouldn't have thought of."
